CCSVI Screening and Venous Angioplasty/ Stenting
(Liberation Procedure) for Multiple Sclerosis
Clinical evaluation
The patient is evaluated for confirmation of the diagnosis using a dedicated clinical protocol. The disability & the clinical state of the patient will be evaluated using EDSS (Expanded Disability Status Scale) .
The following investigations would be carried out on patient’s admission.
· Brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP)
· Visual Evoked Potential ( VEP )
· MRI Brain
· MRV ( Magnetic Resonance Venography) : Areas to be imaged head, neck and chest
· Transcranial Doppler
· Neck Venous Doppler
· Blood tests
If these studies indicate venous abnormality, angiographic study of the venous system is done.
Technology
Latest flat panel Biplane DSA (digital subtraction laboratory) provides ultrahigh resolution (2048 matrix) of cranial (Brain)and spinal blood vessels. This unit is one of the most advanced units installed in this part of the world. The features include
· Biplane technology: having two C arms help in visualization in two planes simultaneously. Flat-panel technology- using digital technology helps in achieving high-resolution images with markedly decreased radiation exposure.
· 3D technology: 3d imaging of blood vessel helps in precise assessment of the vascular anatomy and pathology, with much improved procedure planning
· Advanced DynaCT: the angiographic suite has a built in CT scan like facility for early detection of any complication during procedure
